To His Excellency the Governor of Florida
Dr Sir

I beg to ask your excellency for position to
look up Spanish Spies in Florida. There are no
doubt many in this Country this is Spains means
of warfare barbarism destruction of life and
property - Enclosed please find my history
and references. I have filed a bond of $5000
here to act as a State Detective but there is
nothing much to do in this State I have been
Employed in the English Detective Service and

can Easy detect Suspicious Characters
I trust your Excellency can offer me employment
To detect and Inhuman Spanish Spies that
may be plotting to destroy life and property
in Florida if you cannot offer me position
Kindly return my history I can furnish you any
letters of recommendation you may require

Dear Sr:-
Your
favor of April 29th, offering to look up Spanish spies
in the state of Florida, duly received. The Governor has no funds what-
ever with which to employ such an agent; and consequently I beg leave
to return you herein the papers enclosed.
I
should suppose that the war Department at Washington would
have means to employ such an officer. I would be pleased to consider
the matter had the Legislature made any appropriation looking in that
direction.
