The Online Classroom is designed to help educators use photographs and documents from the State Library and Archives of Florida. Lesson plans are correlated to the Sunshine State Standards.

The Online Classroom also showcases collaborative projects between the State Library and Archives of Florida and Florida schools. These projects help students make a personal connection to the primary source documents that tell the stories of their communities.

Exhibits with Lesson Plans

Photographs and documents from the State Archives of Florida are placed together with background information and lesson plans correlated to the Sunshine State Standards. Lesson plans focus on Florida History, U.S. History, and using primary source materials in Language Arts.

View From the School: Florida Then & Now

This project documents change in Florida cities, towns, communities and landscapes from a student perspective. Art teacher Polly Werner, in collaboration with the State Archives of Florida, conducted the pilot project with her third grade class at Dr. N. H. Jones Elementary School in Ocala, Florida.

Seminole People of Florida: Survival and Success

The Museum of Florida History will host the exhibit Seminole People of Florida: Survival and Success from November 15, 2007, to June 1, 2008. Online resources from the State Archives of Florida and the Museum include lesson plans, photographs, Seminole portraits, and audio clips.

Voices of Florida

These audio clips are take from a Florida Folklife Collection series of audio recordings (S1576). This series includes recordings of performances by or interviews with folk musicians, crafters, storytellers, and folklife interpreters. Together, the recordings document such areas as children's lore, religious traditions, Seminole culture, maritime traditions, ethnic folk culture, material culture, and occupational lore.

Film and Video Clips

Short clips from fifty films and videos from the Florida State Archives' collection have been placed on this web site. The films and video tapes selected date from 1916 to the 1980s and cover a variety of topics including education, environment, family life, industry, integration, politics, and World War II.
