"Fort Marion - the oldest military fortification on the western continent was formerly called Fort San Marcos. Building was started in 1672 by the Spaniards and not completed until 1756 by slaves and Indians compelled to do the work."
"Five acres are covered by this huge structure - in some places the walls being 40 ft. thick. Coquina was the material used in building this best preserved specimen of such architecture in all the world."
