General Note
A native of Vero Beach, Mr. Goodknight earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in civil engineering from the University of Florida. He joined the Department of Transportation in 1961 as a cooperative education student and became a permanent employee in 1964 when he was named assistant research engineer at the Department's Office of Materials and Research in Gainesville. He left Florida in September 1967 to join the Texas Transportation Institute. While in Texas, Mr. Goodknight earned his Ph.D. in transportation planning and urban economics at Texas A & M. He returned to Florida in October 1971 to serve as District Four Assistant Planning and Programming Engineer. In 1973 he was named Deputy District Four Engineer. He was a member of the Institute of Traffic Engineers and the Highway Research board.
