Accompanying note: "Born in South Carolina 1807[1808?]. Hamilton County clerk. Organized and was captain of the first company militia in Columbia County to fight in the Seminole war. Delegate to the St. Joseph convention in 1838 that wrote Florida's first constitution. Served as representative to the legislature 1844-45 and 1848-49. Suwannee County surveyor and county judge."
