Accompanying note: "From the fort extending southward to the barracks a distance of a mile, is the famous sea-wall which protects the entire bayfront of the city from the tides. It was commenced in 1690...completed...1842. It is built of coquina with coping of solid granite, and is wide enough for two persons to walk abrest upon it, provided they are careful, and is much used as a promenade."
