General Note
The Jenkins' Orphanage Band traveled up and down the eastern seaboard and to London to raise funds for the Jenkins Orphanage in Charleston, South Carolina. Founded in 1892 by Reverend Daniel Joseph Jenkins, the orphanage was the first in the state to house black children. While many of the children were taught different trades such as printing, shoemaking, tailoring and chair caning, the bands were a training ground for many musicians who later populated some of the most notable jazz bands of this century.
5th from the right with the slide trombone is thought to be "Cat" Anderson, famous high note jazz trumpeter from Duke Ellington's Orchestra.
