Biographical Note
William Wirt was one of the prosecutors of Aaron Burr for treason in 1807. He was a candidate for President in 1832, and an intimate of Thomas Jefferson. In addition, he was the author of a biography of Patrick Henry. Though he may never have come to the state of Florida, he purchased enough land in the Jefferson County area for each of his children to have a plantation.
