General Note
Born in 1843, he moved to Polk County in January of 1862. Enlisted in Company E of the 7th Florida Infantry Regiment in March 1862. Served in east Tennessee and Kentucky under General Kirby Smith. He was in the Battle of Chickamauga, the siege of Chattanooga, he fought at Missionary Ridge in Atlanta as well as Rocky Face Ridge, Mill Creek Gap. Wounded at Resaca in May 1864 and was discharged. Returned to Florida in 1867 and farmed until 1882.
He became Polk County's Clerk of the Circuit court and Tax Assessor. Mayor of Bartow in May of 1900. He conceived and brought into being the South Florida Military College in Bartow. Died in January of 1915.
