General Note
The composer spent part of 1884 and 1886 at an orange grove on the Saint Johns River and then in Jacksonville. His "Appalachia" recalls two melodies: "No Trouble in the Land Where I'm Bound" and "Oh, Honey, I am Going Down the River in the Morning."
Caption of the image reads, "In Norway the composer now became a controversial public figure. Christian Krohg, a leading painter (and teacher of Munch), came to sketch and interview him for 'Verdens Gang', a daily newspaper."
