The house was built in 1847 by George Anderson. Later sold to Colonel Houstoun. Sold to Catholic Church in 1870 and used for a number of years as a convent. N.B. Broward used it as the Governor's Mansion when he took office in 1905 until Fall 1907. Bought by Allie Yawn Brown in the 1920's. Demolition of the Brown House gave birth to the preservation movement in Tallahassee.
