Estes Kefauver, a Democrat from Tennessee, served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1939 to 1949 and in the U.S. Senate from 1949 until his death in 1963. He is known for twice pursuing his party's nomination for President, leading a campaign against organized crime, and serving as the running mate of Adlai Stevenson in the 1956 Presidential election.
