Accompanying note: "FLORIDA FLAG FOR SOUTH POLE - Gov. LeRoy Collins wrote his autograph on the hem of a Florida State flag which he yesterday gave John D. Hasty of Chipley, Navy radioman 2c, to take to the South Pole next month. Hasty's mother, Mrs. O. Hasty, was with him for the presentation. Hasty, in the Navy since 1950, will leave Oct. 21 for 15 months at the South Pole station for studies connected with the International Geophysical Year. The flag was provided by the State Development Commission."
