Hugh Taylor Birch was a landowner and South Florida winter resident and was born in 1848. Birch first came to Florida in 1893, and began buying the property in Ft. Lauderdale that would become the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park in 1903. In December 1941 he decided to will the land to the state upon his death. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park was located on Highway A1A and East Sunrise Blvd., between the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean, in Ft Lauderdale.
