Accompanying note: "Born 1822, Richmond, Va, son of John and Elizabeth Copland Parkhill. Moved at age 5 to Tuscawilla plantation in Leon Co., 14 miles from Tally."
"Graduate of New York College of Physicians & Surgeons. In 1858 married Elizabeth Bellamy. With cousin, Lt. Richard Parkhill, raised a company called the Howell Guards. On Aug. 27, 1861 left Tally. Mustered as Co. M, 2nd Fla. at Richmond."
"Killed June 27, 1862, battle of Gaines Mill. His body servant, Louis, picked up his body and carried it to Richmond. Stopped by a man calling from a house 'Whose body is that you carry'. Told it was Capt. G.W. Parkhill of Fla. he was ordered to 'Bring him in the house, he was born here."
