Karl, center, of Volusia County, leader of the public school forces in the House, talks over vote results after the House passed the $987 million appropriations which a 10-member Senate-House Joint Conference Committee had been working on for three days. The record appropriation bill passed with a 66-51 vote faces action by the Senate next Monday. Well over half of the near-billion dollar bill is earmarked for the public schools. Right is Rep. Chesterfield Smith, of DeSoto County, chairman of the House Appropriations Committee, piloted the spending bill through the House. Rep. John Crews, left, Baker County, thought the overall appropriations bill called for too much money and voted against it."
