Hon. Dave Sholtz,

My Dear Governor Sholtz:-
I am writing you in connection with the Everglades National Park Commission, which you so kindly appointed me a member of some weeks ago.
Under Senate Bill No. 958, passed at the recent session of the Legislature, the third paragraph of Section 1 of the amended Bill provides that the Chairman of the Commission shall be elected from among the twelve Commission members by majority vote of the members, and that the Executive Chairman and the Executive Secretary shall be appointed by the Governor, the Executive Chairman so appointed to be selected from the members of the Commission.
Without any presumption on my part, I would like to suggest that you call a meeting of the Commissioners at an early date, and also appoint the Executive Chairman and Executive Secretary so that the Commission may organize and take up the duties as prescribed in the Acts of the Legislature.
In the appointment of the Executive Chairman and Executive Secretary, I assume that Mr. Ernest Coe, of Miami, who has been very active in this matter and probably knows more about the project [than] anyone else, will be appointed Chairman, and his appointment I am sure would meet with the approval of the other members.
In your consideration of the appointment of the Executive Secretary it would please me very much if you can see your way clear to appoint Mrs. W.S. Jennings, of Jacksonville, to that position, if such appointment would

not conflict with her present duties as Director of State Parks.
I am sure you know that Mrs. Jennings has been very active and is one of the leaders in Florida in matters of this kind, and undoubtedly she would be able to fill the position of Executive Secretary in a most satisfactory manner.
Thanking you, and with kindest personal regards, I am,
Sincerely yours,
JW Hoffman [signature]
